One of the best places in south. Bay for authentic Cantonese food and dimsum. It's your go to when you feel like stuffing yourself with carbs, yummy little dumplings filled with pork shrimp and other protein. They also have the traditional canto dishes that are to die for. On the weekends the do have the push carts out in full force. Service is pretty decent. Make sure you ask for their chili oil and extra mustard and chili paste. My coworkers and I frequent this spot a lot and really enjoy the no frills service a

On occasion after church on Sunday , we would go to brunch. With so many places to choose from, dimsum is usually a choice of Asians like me. But dimsum is not just food but an experience. There are some dimsum places where you check a list of dimsum dishes and pass it to a waiter and a few minutes later they deliver your dish to your table. Not here at Sea Empress. Dimsum is carted around every table in rolling carts by an army of old ladies showing you various dishes to choose from. For every dish you select, they would stamp a check on your table, which are coded for different price groups which makes it easy for them to total up your bill. Pork and shrimp Siomai is always a favorite of ours. Hargaw (shrimp dumplings) are an all time favorite of my daughter. Sticky rice with filling wrapped in lotus leaves is an extremely delicious savory dish. Although congee with century egg is another excellent carb dish. The sticky rice is usually my main dish providing carbs. One other dish I love is the turnip cake which has bits of Chinese sausage providing a light hint of its flavor making you want more. (I forgot what the Chinese name for it is). Most all other dimsum dishes are delicious protein including spare ribs. If you are a bit more adventurous then you should try the chicken feet. It has a bit of gelatinous texture so some may find the texture of the "meat" strange but like sushi, once you try and like it, you'll always want it! There are other carts also with fried dishes and also some desserts. I recommend the sesame balls. The experience of waiting for the carts to come by your table is always fun, as you choose more dishes to try. The restaurant itself is quite dated and I'd say really needs a refresh. Their toilets also need better cleaning and at more frequency. As most dimsum places I've been to, customer service is never top notch, but I don't really mind because I understand that it really the culture, just as I have experienced the same in Hong Kong. All in all, their food is really good so I recommend Sea Empress if you're in the South Bay area. 4 stars!!!

I've been coming to Sea Empress my whole life. They used to be 5 stars, but as the years have gone by, they have taken no steps towards up-keeping the restaurant (i.e. outdated interior, old tables/chairs, even my menu was bound by a See's Candy ribbon...) nonetheless, the food is just as delicious as it was 20 years ago. It's a no frills kind of place with great food. Service is usually standard. Everyone is nice and they are prompt to getting you what you want. They also gave our party free egg tarts at the end, which was nice!

WARNING: If they ask for tea and you say yes they don't charge you for one kettle they charge you for each cup you pour. They don't mention this to you until you see it on your bill. For example if you are a party of 8 and everyone decides to pour themselves a cup (full or not it doesn't matter if you use the cup for any amount of tea you're getting charged). That's $3 a cup. Let's say 3 people don't use the cups and the waiter see's this they will pass by your table and take the 3 unused cups making a note to only charge you for 5 cups. FOOD: The food portions are pretty good. Taste is subjective but I would say everything tasted average. We ordered a lot but I sadly only could take a few pictures due to my family being hungry savages. The only ding would be the scallop dish barely having any scallop at all. They also have the traditional carts at certain times only, so if you want to experience that I suggest calling ahead and asking which times they serve food on those. SERVICE: Their quite attentive and the food took some time. Overall portions are big, friendly service, and average food (in my opinion, taste is subjective)!
